In a historic moment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar’s ancient Nalanda (Nalanda ruins) on Wednesday, June 19th, to inaugurate the new campus of the revived Nalanda University (Nalanda University revival). This modern institution of higher education, built near the ruins of the ancient university that attracted scholars from across the world over 1,600 years ago, aims to recapture that spirit of global learning and intellectual exchange.
The Prime Minister’s visit holds special significance, as he will be accompanied by the External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and ambassadors from 17 partner countries, underscoring the university’s international legacy. As Professor Abhay Kumar Singh, the interim vice-chancellor, remarked, “This celebratory spirit will give Nalanda a boost.”
The ancient Nalanda (Nalanda ruins), a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016, will witness a new chapter in its storied history as PM Modi inaugurates the campus at around 10:30 AM, following a visit to the ancient ruins (Nalanda ancient university) at 9:45 AM. His speech on the occasion is eagerly awaited, symbolizing the government’s commitment to reviving this prestigious center of learning (Nalanda University revival).
The new campus, a harmonious blend of traditional and modern architecture, spans 455 acres and includes academic buildings, hostels, auditoriums, an amphitheater, and even a Net Zero area with 100 acres of water bodies. This state-of-the-art facility aims to attract students and scholars from around the world, just as its ancient predecessor did.
The revival of Nalanda University (Nalanda University revival) has been a long-cherished dream, initiated by former President APJ Abdul Kalam’s suggestion in 2007. After the Bihar assembly passed a bill and provided land, the university was established by an Act of Parliament in 2010 and officially began operations in 2014 with just 14 students.
Today, with students and faculty from various countries, Nalanda University offers postgraduate and doctoral courses, short-term certificate programs, and 137 scholarships for international students, solidifying its role as a global hub of education and research (Nalanda University courses).
As PM Modi inaugurates this modern incarnation of the ancient Nalanda University (Nalanda University revival), it marks a historic moment in India’s efforts to reclaim its glorious legacy as a center of knowledge and learning, attracting scholars from far and wide, just as it did centuries ago at the ancient Nalanda (Nalanda ancient university).
